Older trucks can get modern features with a new head unit or a CarPlay and Android Auto display. Before buying, check the dash opening size (single-DIN or double-DIN), whether you need a dash kit and wiring harness, and whether you want to keep steering wheel controls and factory amplifiers.
Factory speakers are often the weakest link. Replacing them with quality coaxial or component speakers makes a big difference, and a compact under-seat subwoofer adds bass without losing cab space.
Portable wireless CarPlay screens that mount on the dash are a simple option for trucks where changing the factory radio is difficult.
Frequently Asked Questions
+Can I add CarPlay to an older truck?
Yes. Either replace the radio with a CarPlay head unit using a dash kit and harness, or use a portable dash-mounted CarPlay display that connects to the stereo via Bluetooth, AUX or FM.
+Will I lose steering wheel controls?
Not if you add a steering wheel control interface module. Many harness kits include one for your truck.
