Tire rules in United States
- Minimum tread depth: most states require 2/32 inch (about 1.6 mm); replace earlier for wet and winter grip.
- Winter rules differ by state: chain or traction-tire requirements on mountain passes, studded tires only allowed in some states and seasons.
- TPMS has been mandatory in new passenger cars and light trucks since model year 2008.
- For lifted trucks with larger tires, check load index, speedometer calibration and fitment.
