Ford F-150 Leveling Kit vs Lift Kit: Which One Do You Need?

A leveling kit raises the front of your Ford F-150 to match the rear. A lift kit raises the whole truck. Which one you need depends on the tires you want and how you use the truck.

Leveling the F-150

Most F-150 owners level the front 2 to 2.5 inch to remove the factory rake. Going beyond about 2.5 inch with a spacer-style kit puts the upper control arm and CV axles at steeper angles.

After any change in ride height, get an alignment. Headlights may also need to be re-aimed.

Lifting the F-150

Lifts of 4 to 6 inch on the F-150 replace knuckles or crossmembers and usually need longer shocks and sometimes a driveshaft spacer.

Bigger lifts change how the truck drives and tows. Consider your daily use, not just the look.

Which one is right for you

  • You want 33 inch tires and a level stance: leveling kit.
  • You want 35 inch tires or serious off-road clearance: lift kit.
  • You tow heavy trailers often: keep it modest and choose quality shocks.
  • You lease the truck or want easy resale: leveling kits are easier to undo.
